History of Women in The Olympics

Women have competed in the Olympics since ancient Greece. At that time the competition was very different. Women's Olympics was a separate event. Every four years the event was organized maidens competed against other maidens of their age.

The games for women were called the Heraea Games, they did not have the significance of the men's games but were still considered an important competition. After all in ancient Greece women were not considered as athletes and participation in sports was not common. Women did have a certain amount of freedom built they did still seclude themselves and public competition along with men would not be considered.

The Olympic Games have come a long way, and now Women are an integral part of the competition. They are free to compete in numerous events and have won many medals and championships. The history of the Women in the Olympics has been long and has evolved as society and treatment of Women has turned around.
